Thanks for stopping at the conservation home page for Plymouth County. Over 50 years old and still going strong, The Plymouth County Conservation District was established by state legislation in 1942 in order to bring USDA conservation help to farmers. Today, as then, the Conservation District is a local environmental agency dedicated to wise land use and conservation of natural resources.
The District raises most of its' operational revenue through annual fund raising programs and grants. Browse through our brochures for our Tree & Shrub Sale in the early spring and Bulb Sale in late summer. PCCD uses the proceeds to provide various conservation and educational programs, some of which are listed below, along with conservation workshops throughout the year. Money raised goes right back into the county!
The Plymouth District is managed by a seven member volunteer Board of Supervisors, who are elected to 3 year terms on a rotating basis. Any landowner or occupier in Plymouth County is eligible to serve on the board or as a non-voting Associate Member. We are always looking for interested people. Our monthly meetings take place at the USDA Building, 15 Cranberry Highway, West Wareham, MA, 02576, every 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm, in the conference room. All are welcome!

District Programs:
Jute - Erosion Control Jute Mesh is also known as “Soil Saver”.
Historic Aerial Photos The District has recently taken over the research to provide Aerial Photos of Plymouth, Bristol and Norfolk Counties. Photos available run from 2001 - 1935, although not all sites have all the years available. Photos are looked up and scanned and can be printed or sent by email for $36.00 per hour. A set of years for one site usually takes about an hour to complete. Email Cara for information.
Coyote Decoy: The District is in the process of developing a product line in order to earn much needed funds. One of our first products offered is a plastic Decoy Coyote to discourage Canada Geese from playing fields and golf courses. The coyote decoys have been used at Massasoit Community College in Brockton with great success. To see our coyote, click here.
Wooden Cranberry Boxes: For Sale These great old pieces have a lot of character and would look great just about anywhere.
Soil Survey: The District also assists with the Soil Survey - the mapping of soils in Plymouth County, done by USDA Soil Scientists, plus sponsors Soil Workshops periodically for area engineers, board of health members and contractors.
Bug Band: The District's newest product is "Bug Band" natural insect repellent. The ingredients are all natural and repel mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, red fire ants, no-see-ums, biting flies and gnats. It is DEET free. Wristbands - $5.00, Aerosol - $8.00 and Towelettes (2 to a pack) - $1.00. This has been tried and approved by our NRCS Staff in the West Wareham Office.
Electronic Recycle Day: For the past five years, the District has sponsored an Electronic Recycle Day in early May and mid June. We collect and dispose of computer monitors, TV's and anything else with a cord! Including white ware, for a small fee. We look forward to another successful day in 2008. If you have items to bring to the recycling day, call the office in June 2008.
The Environthon is a state wide competition, leading to a national competition between high school teams solving environmental problems. The District is available with technical help to any county high school to help prepare for the team.
